Twitter’s data editor named contributing editor at Vox.com

Simon Rogers, data editor at Twitter, will be a contributing editor at Vox.com, the company announced Wednesday.

At Vox, Rogers will develop “data journalism and visualization tools” and improve the editorial, design and product teams, according to a press release from Vox Media. He will keep his job at Twitter.

Rogers, the founder of The Guardian’s data blog, was hired by Twitter in 2013 to be the company’s first data editor.

New York, NY (February 4, 2015) Vox, one of the world’s fastest growing news sites, announced today that Simon Rogers is to become a contributing editor for the site.

As contributing editor, Rogers will work with Vox to help develop its data journalism and visualization tools, and the editorial, design, and product teams in expanding the site’s interactive features. He will be a regular contributor to the site and assist with editorial oversight on data-related stories and products.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be working with Vox. The site has become the premier location for analysis of breaking news subjects in an accessible and intelligent way and its plans for new types of data journalism are tremendous,” says Rogers.

Rogers will remain in his current post as data editor at Twitter. An award-winning data journalist, prior to Twitter, he created and edited the Guardian’s online data resource site, the Datablog (theguardian.com/data) one of the first news organization sites to tell stories with data.. He has also served as a news editor at the Guardian, working with the graphics team to interpret huge datasets. He has been awarded the Royal Statistical Society’s prize for statistical excellence in journalism and lectures on data journalism at UC Berkeley. He is also author of data journalism bible Facts Are Sacred and a series of infographics books for children.
