Can you find the hidden meaning in a photo of a hedgehog? Do you long to tell the story of Jen Selter’s latest gym selfie? Maybe you simply must tackle the complexities of closeup shots of food. If any of this sounds like you, you’re in luck. Instagram is hiring journalists to cover its “most interesting users.”
Before you get excited, this is not a job for just anyone. That’s right. You must be extremely qualified to write 300 words about a 13 year old who enjoys pictures of clouds.
According to Digiday, Instagram’s senior features editor must have at least eight years of editing experience. Want that community editor spot? Better have at least five years of editorial experience.
Despite what Instagram is saying, this is not journalism. This is advertising. Anyone who applies for these jobs is being hired to promote Instagram users. Nothing more, nothing less. If that sounds like fun to you, then have at it. On the bright side, like advertising, it probably pays more than journalism. #Enjoy.
