Fortune has hired Michael Lawton as its new creative director. Lawton most recently served as Popular Mechanics’ design director.
During his time at Hearst Magazines, Lawton oversaw the company’s first iPad magazine app. He revamped PopMech in 2012 and 2013 and garnered silver and gold medals, respectively, from the Society of Publication Designers.
According to a memo from Fortune’s editor Alan Murray, Lawton will be tasked with redesigning the magazine.
“Michael is an extremely talented and accomplished designer, and I’m delighted he’ll be joining the Fortune team Feb. 9,” wrote Murray.
