Deadspin has been duped. In a post touting the addition of 3-on-3 Olympic basketball, Deadspin wrote “The IOC has officially added a new half-court 3-on-3 basketball event to the competitions to be held in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. This rules.”
There is no doubt that 3-0n-3 Olympic basketball would uh, “rule.” However, this announcement was pulled from fake news site The Betoota Advocate. You’d think Deadspin would’ve easily realized that, given this paragraph included in the Advocate:
Spectators will be given the opportunity to watch the competition in the evenings, from the comfort of their own cars. It is proposed that each game be played in the evenings and the lighting will be complimented by the headlights on spectator vehicles that are to be surrounding the arena.
Pretty sure that would not happen.
Deadspin did eventually update their post admitting their mistake, so good for them. Now, on to more important matters — how do we get this 3-on-3 thing to actually happen?
