Let it go? Sorry, but as Ricky Gervais so delightfully reminded the other night at the Golden Globes, that’s not the way these things work.
The major upside-down highlight of this morning’s announcement of the 2014 Oscar nominees in Beverly Hills was Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs‘ struggles with the teleprompter. She woke up the crowd with a number of embarrassing stumbles, including calling Birdman “The Birdman” and Mr. Turner cinematographer Dick Pope “Dick Poop.”
Right now, many more entertainment reporters that could ever have been expected are scrambling to get a hold of this particular Best Cinematography nominee. He’s British, and since the British generally like to have fun with this sort of thing, the reaction from the 67-year-old DP should be good.
To use a few (other) titles in Pope’s credits list, even though Isaccs’ stumble was Nothing Personal, more of just a Topsy-Turvy mistake, there’s no Walking Away from this for Pope. The masterful picture taker of Mr. Turner will be forever also known as Mr. Poop.
