The Woodman could have definitely written a better press release headline than: “Amazon Studios Signs Woody Allen to Create His First Television Series Ever.” Starting, perhaps, with: “Woody Allen Joins a Club He Never Thought He’d Be a Part Of.”
Nevertheless, this is gigantic news, backlit by the Golden Globes of Transparent’s triumphant awards emergence. From the release:
Untitled Woody Allen Project, a half-hour series, has received a full season order and episodes will be written and directed by Allen.
“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series,\» said Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios. “From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”
Actually, funny that Price mentions Blue Jasmine. Because our first thought about the focus of this series was wouldn’t it be great – Cate Blanchett participation assumed – if Allen could pick up right where that scintillating recent narrative left off.
