More than 30 journalism organizations throughout the United States, including The Poynter Institute, have added their names to an image symbolizing solidarity with the staff of French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, several of whom were killed in a shooting Wednesday.
The text directly above the image, “Je Suis Charlie,” translates to “I am Charlie,” an expression of fellowship that caught fire in the hours after the shooting when it was adopted by media outlets and social media users.
Poynter’s Kristen Hare has compiled the outpouring of support and outrage from several journalism organizations, including the Agence France-Presse, The Newseum and the Newspaper Association of America here. She’s also compiled a list of editorial cartoons reacting to the shooting and a Twitter list of Paris-based journalists covering the aftermath.
